Abstract

A critical review of the genus Populus L. in the flora of the Indian Himalaya, including 5 species (P. ciliata Wall. ex Royle, P. glauca Haines, P. adenopoda Maxim., P. tremula L. and P. × kashmirica A. K. Skvortsov nothosp. nova) is resulted. The changes in systematics and nomenclature of the species are made; the main synonyms, data on types, ecology and geographical distribution are presented. Morphological descriptions of the species are refined and completed. The transfer of P. ciliata from the section Tacamahaca Spach to Leucoides Spach is considered reasonable.
