The Journal is one of the scientific periodicals of the Komarov Botanical Institute (at present belonging to the Russian Academy of Sciences), founded as the garden of medicinal plants by Peter the Great in February 1714. The Journal under the name Novosti sistematiki nizshikh rastenii was founded in 1964 by the botanists of the Komarov Botanical Institute, St. Petersburg (formerly Leningrad).
It represents a continuation of Botanicheskie materialy Instituta Sporovykh Rastenii Glavnogo Botanicheskogo Sada RS FSR, Petrograd, vol. 1–4(7), 1922–1926; Botanicheskie materialy otdela sporovyh rastenii Botanicheskogo Instituta imeni V. L. Komarova Akademii Nauk SSSR, Moscow, Leningrad, vol. 5(4/6)–5(10/12), 1940–1945; vol. 6(7/12)–16, 1950–1963, preceded by Botanicheskie materialy Otdela sporvykh rastenii Botanicheskogo Instituta Akademii Nauk SSSR, Moscow, Leningrad vol. 6(1/6), 1949.
The Journal publishes original papers on taxonomy, systematics, and biodiversity of algae, fungi, lichens, and bryophytes.
Novosti sistematiki nizshikh rastenii is open access, peer-reviewed, free-of-charge and royalty-free journal.
The Editorial Board includes both national and international experts in the taxonomy, ecology, and biogeography of algae, fungi, lichens, and bryophytes.
Submitted and corresponding to the requirements of the journal manuscripts are subjected to double-blind review.
Indexing: Scopus, Dimensions, RSCI, Google Scholar.
Periodicity: Continuous submission of manuscripts is welcomed by journal. Articles are published online after peer review and editing, except during the period from the delivery to the printer of the second part of an annual volume until January 15 of the subsequent year.
Each volume is published in two parts that are printed in April and November.
Publication dates of the journal
Manuscripts on lichens submitted by August 31 may be published in the next issue of the journal, pending successful peer review and editorial preparation.
Starting with Volume 60, Part 2, manuscripts with new records of lichens are no longer accepted for the New Cryptogamic Records section
It is recommended to write full-length articles on the most significant finds of individual or multiple species of national importance (at the Russian level), provided they meet the journal's submission requirements.
