Education and work experience:
1982 – graduated from the Department of Geobotany and Darwinism, Faculty of Biology and Soil Science, St. Petersburg (Leningrad) State University.

1995 – until now – Laboratory of Systematics and Geography of Fungi BIN RAN.
Described new to science: five lichen species, over 100 species and 12 genera of lichenicolous fungi. Researched the diversity of lichens and lichenicolous fungi in all the major sectors of the Arctic. Co-author of the first panarctic check-list of lichens and lichenicolous fungi (Kristinsson et al. 2010) and the first check-list of fungi of the Russian Arctic (Karatygin 1999). Researched the diversity of lichenicolous fungi in many extra-Arctic regions of Russia, as well as in the USA, Canada, Norway, Mongolia, India, Japan, and Vietnam.
