1979 – Graduated from Leningrad State University, Faculty of Geography, Department of Biogeography.
1984 – Candidate of Biological Sciences degree (Ph.D.), Komarov Botanical Institute RAS. Dissertation topic: «Vegetation of the Chu-Ili Mountains (geography and cartography)».

1968-1976 — Laboratory assistant of the scientific department of the Teberdinsky State Reserve.
